Causes of Bell's palsy
The exact reasons why you may develop paralysis, Bell is not yet understood. However, it is assumed that a viral infection of the facial nerve, which are affected, the most likely cause. Herpes simplex - the virus responsible for herpes labialis - has been proposed as responsible for many cases. This virus can remain inactive (dormant) to the root of the facial nerve, causing swelling, when reactivated (wake up). Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a disease of Bell's palsy is similar, but in this case the virus - varicella-zoster (virus a strain of herpes virus that causes chickenpox) - was identified as the cause. Bubbles is in the ear often in Ramsay Hunt syndrome.

Bell's palsy is caused by inflammation of the trigeminal nerve, the inflammation of the nerves is not always understood.
